Milan Design Week 2026: The Must-See Design Exhibitions, & Installations Defining Contemporary Luxury

Fluxx Review: From Kelly Wearstler to Ai Weiwei, the projects shaping Milan Design Week 2026

There are few moments in the global design calendar that hold the same cultural weight as Milan Design Week. Each April, the city transforms into a living laboratory of ideas, where architecture, interiors, craft and technology intersect across palazzos, courtyards and industrial spaces.

For 2026, the narrative feels more considered than ever. A shift towards materiality, storytelling and collectible design defines this year’s edition, where installations move beyond aesthetics to explore how we live, create and connect.

From global design icons to emerging studios, these are the key projects to see at Milan Design Week 2026.

The Fluxx Guide: Milan Design Week

Fashion Meets Interiors: Kelly Wearstler x H&M Home

One of the most anticipated moments of the week sees Kelly Wearstler unveil her collaboration with H&M Home, a project that brings her signature material-led aesthetic into a more accessible, global context.

Known for sculptural forms and layered textures, Wearstler’s work continues to shape contemporary interiors. This launch reflects a wider shift within design, where fashion, interiors and lifestyle are increasingly interconnected, and where high design is translated for a broader audience.

Design Legacy Revisited at Triennale Milano

At the Triennale, The Eames House offers a comprehensive overview of the residential architecture of Charles Eamesand Ray Eames. A full-scale reconstruction invites visitors into their world, exploring modular construction, prefabrication and a human-centred approach to living that continues to inform contemporary design thinking.

Alongside this, a monographic exhibition dedicated to Andrea Branzi, interpreted by Toyo Ito, reflects on one of the most influential figures in Italian design culture.

Immersive Installations Across Milan

Lina Ghotmeh makes her Milan debut with Metamorphosis in Motion, a pink-hued labyrinth set within Palazzo Litta, where curved forms guide visitors through shifting spatial experiences. At Piscina Romano, design studio 6AM explores repetition through contemporary glass — presenting sculptural lighting and objects, including pieces developed for Bottega Veneta.

Meanwhile, Deoron opens a former industrial site to the public, bringing together over 50 international designers across furniture, lighting, technology and installation, alongside a curated programme of events.

Materiality, Collectible Design and the Future of Luxury

At Salone del Mobile, the introduction of Salone Raritas marks a significant shift towards collectible design, with scenography by Formafantasma.

Across the fair, materiality takes centre stage, with limited-edition pieces, artisanal processes and architectural forms defining the future of interiors. This narrative extends beyond the fairgrounds. At Milan Design Week 2026, Ai Weiwei collaborates with Rubelli on a striking silk installation, a project that explores material as both medium and message.

Known for translating cultural narratives through form, Ai Weiwei’s work with Rubelli draws on the historic craftsmanship of Venetian textiles, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. The result is an installation that sits between art, design and architecture, reinforcing Milan’s position as a city where disciplines converge.

Alongside this, presents a bold exploration of density, permanence and architectural form under the creative direction of Eleonore Cavalli.

Design as a Multi-Sensory Experience

Design moves beyond the visual with a series of immersive, cross-disciplinary installations.

ARTISIA x Studio Yellowdot present Edible Reveries, a conceptual exploration of 3D-printed pasta through design, technology and spatial storytelling. In Brera, Liberty collaborates with Lorenza Bozzoli on Soft Architecture, transforming textiles into structural forms.

At House of MINI, MINI and Paul Smith present A Garden of Curiosity, an installation exploring colour, sound and sensory design.

Interiors, Atmosphere and Spatial Storytelling

At Nilufar DepotVolumes of Stillness explores interiors as a continuous landscape — defined by rounded volumes, saturated surfaces and the manipulation of light. The accompanying Nilufar Grand Hotel concept reframes hospitality as narrative, with designers including david/nicolas and Allegra Hicks creating immersive, room-based environments.

Elsewhere, Artemest’s L’Appartamento returns to Palazzo Donizetti, where leading studios reinterpret Italian cities through interior design.

Emerging Talent and Global Perspectives

Swiss exhibition Shared Matter, co-curated by Max Fraser and Maddalena Casadei, explores contemporary design through research and collaboration.

At Superstudio, a global programme of exhibitions highlights designers from across Europe, Asia and beyond. A key moment includes a project curated by Marcel Wanders celebrating 25 years of Moooi.
